Poltrona Frau Archibald armchair

The Archibald armchair from Poltrona Frau is the latest piece of Italian furniture on display at Abitalia's contemporary design studio in Cheltenham.

After being well received at the Milan furniture fair in April 2010, the Archibald armchair designed by Jean-Marie Massaud went on to win the prestigious Wallpaper Design Awards 2010 in the category 'Best domestic design'. Having sat in the elegant armchair it is no surprise that the Archibald has won such great accreditation.
The upholstery of the shell is made from the highest quality Pelle Frau leather. Effeti L'Evoluzione meets Bliss Mill

Abitalia designed and installed this Effeti kitchen in early 2010. The project was a full refurbishment of the kitchen within a beautiful 19th century tweed mill. The client wanted a kitchen that was stunning: with hand polished glossy lacquer cabinetry from Italy and the Lolli e Memmoli chandelier offset against the venetian plastered wall, the kitchen fulfilled the clients wishes.

Every detail was considered carefully, from the KWC pull-out spray tap to the flush mounted Steeltime sink. The most striking detail being the hand made Phebo circular chandelier with four shades of purple coated crystals - exclusively from Abitalia.

The dining table is the Platner table from Knoll, with four white glossy lacquered chairs from Casamania - the Him and Her collection. All available from Abitalia on 01242 262155

For 2012 Abitalia's showroom has been updated with a couple of new pieces, one of which is the Tab T light by Flos.

Designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the Tab T is the table lamp version of the original Tab floor lamp. It's unique shaped head is perfect for reading. By resting a book on top, the Tab T acts as a page mark ready to be continued another time. The light can be focused in many directions with it's fully rotatable stem and adjustable head, making it ideal for home and office use.

Abitalia featured in December's Beautiful Kitchens

As mentioned in Abitalia's last blog post, we will start to blog past projects to hopefully inspire future clients and give a better insight into Abitalia's kitchens. A recent project completed in Cheltenham was a kitchen from the Sinuosa range by Effeti.

The project was a complete renovation of an Edwardian house by BEAM Construction. Abitalia's involvement centred around the kitchen, but also included flooring throughout the house, lighting, and the bespoke master bedroom wardrobe.

Published in December's issue of Beautiful Kitchens magazine, the five page article describes the clients requirements, design constraints and the finished project. The contemporary Italian kitchen designed by Abitalia showcases the high standard of design and installation.

Forming another part of the Poltrona Frau Group is the furniture brand Cappellini. Along with Cassina, both companies are now exclusively sold through Abitalia, an interior design studio based in Cheltenham.

Cappellini's products have come along way since the company began in 1946, with their creative talents now being recognised internationally. The first day of the Milan Fair is always hard work. Despite the preparation, the sheer number of exhibitors and scale of the Fair is a lot to take in. Two companies we work with a lot are Giellesse and BPA International. Giellesse displayed the first in a series of wardrobes and life system - Offline - from Danilo Radice.

BPA International introduced the new Allen sofa and Conrad armchair. Something to note is BPA's first steps to designing and producing library compositions. The hint being the side storage units to act as arms for their sofa collections, as well as being independent elements.

Tomorrow we all get stuck into the Fair and we'll be posting more products and news. In particular kitchen design and bathroom furniture. Once the Fair is over we'll be announcing which new companies will be added to our portfolio at Abitalia.

At this time of the year the most important furniture and design Fair takes place in Milan. It is the leading exhibition in the World with the top designers, architects and manufacturers. This year is of particular significance as the Fair will be exhibiting the latest in kitchen and bathroom design - an area Abitalia has a reputation for.

Launched last year at SuperStudio Piu, Milan, the Raimond light was the highlight from Moooi's latest collection. Moooi are happy to inform that from now on the Raimond Lamp will be available also in the three bigger sizes: 127, 163 and 199 cm. The complexity of its design and the soft glow of its hundreds of tiny LED lights become even more evident and eye-catching in the bigger formats.

As a general rule the lamps are not provided with light dimmer. Upon specific request we will check the possibility of adding a dimming device and inform you further.

Though not Euroluce, many lighting companies will be exhibiting next week at the Milan fair. One to keep an eye out for is Innermost based in SuperStudio Piu in Tortona. If you're in Milan next week head down to Tortona as this is our favourite place during the design week - away from the suits at the fair itself.

GAN rugs 2010 collection

For the first blog of March, our designers at Abitalia decided to feature GAN rugs by Gandia Blasco. Gandia Blasco may be known for it's contemporary outdoor furniture, but it has been producing textiles for over sixty years. More recently known as GAN rugs, the company produces hand tufted, lana and hand knotted rugs that are heavily influenced by Persian, Arabic and Mediterranean cultures.

The 25 international editions of the Elle Decoration network have awarded Axo's Bell lamp as this year’s winner of the eighth annual Elle Decoration International Design Awards in the lighting category. The EDIDA represents an award of international recognition within the world of design.

Bell features a bell shape that is elongated according to its diameter and a metal structure covered in ribbons of super-smooth pongé fabric. The Event is back. 14th - 19th April

For the fourth year running Abitalia will be attending the International Furniture Exhibition in Milan. It is most significant Exhibition in the world for furniture designers, architects and interior designers. As well as attending the Exhibition, Abitalia will be working alongside a number of Italian furniture brands on their respective stands.

This year is of particular interest as the Exhibition will feature kitchens and bathrooms - two key areas where Abitalia specialises. Open primarily to the trade, the Fair is open to the public on Sunday 18th. We invite anyone who is interested in attending to contact us so we can guide you through the 1,000+ exhibitors. This project was our first bathroom/en-suite as a design studio. The property is a beautiful house with a long history - additions over the centuries tell a story, so it is only fitting that the renovation of the en-suite acknowledges the present.

Moooi Horse Lamp coming soon to Cheltenham

We're moving things around in our studio to make way for Horse Lamp from the Dutch company Moooi. Designed by Front in 2008, the life size horse is 2.1m high and 2.3m long. Cheltenham has long been associated with horses and horse racing, so it is a fitting addition to our collection of contemporary furniture.
